Should I use Free Acid or Latent Catalyst?
While acid catalysts provide the fastest cure and lower curing temperatures, blocked or latent catalysts are typically chosen for systems requiring greater package stability. In addition, troublesome catalyst-pigment interactions can be reduced or eliminated with the use of blocked catalysts.

Which K-KAT should I use to replace DBTDL?
Different K-KAT products seem to work better in different systems, The Bismuth catalysts tend to provide the most similar cure speed/pot life to DBTDL. The latest and most hydrolytically stable Bismuth catalyst is K-KAT XK-651

Which K-KAT is recommended for waterborne 2K polyurethane systems?
K-KAT 6212 would be the most selective for the polyol/NCO reaction, but it needs to be incorporated wither in the NCO component or added as a third component. K-KAT XK-614 could be added to the waterborne polyol component.

Which catalyst do you recommend to replace organomercury catalysts?
K-KAT XK-604, XK-617, and XK-618. They do not contain mercury, tin, or lead. They are efficient and less expensive than mercury catalyst. The XK-618 is the best cure profile match to organomercury, but it is the most likely to result in gassing if there is a trace amount of water present. The XK-604 is the least likely to result in a water reaction.

Which K-FLEX polyesters will provide the hardest films?
The higher the viscosity of the K-FLEX polyester, the higher the hardness. K-FLEX XM-337 and K-FLEX 188 would be the two hardest materials, and the XM-332 would be the softest.

Do K-FLEX polyesters have primary or secondary hydroxyl groups?
They are 100% primary hydroxyl groups.

Can I formulate lower VOC systems with higher viscosity K-FLEX polyesters?
Yes, the high viscosities are reduced very efficiently with low levels of solvent addition to break the hydrogen bonding. Also, the narrow molecular weight distribution provides efficient viscosity reduction.

Are K-FLEX polyesters suitable for waterborne systems?
Yes, they are hydrophobic, so special care should be used to incorporate them. Preblend with whatever co-solvent is available and then add with good agitation before adding any additional water.

Do K-FLEX polyesters have an acid number?
No, they do not have any acid functionality. As a result, K-FLEX will not catalyze the reverse hydrolysis reactions and they are compatible with polyaspartates.

Yes. Disparlon 6900-20X is commonly referred to as Disparlon 6900.

What is the activation temperature for Disparlon Powder Thixotropes in epoxy coatings?
Epoxy with solvent: 60-80 ° C for 30 minutes.
Epoxy non solvent: 70-90 ° C for 30 minutes.
Cure Agent: 40-60 ° C for 30 minutes.

How to treat Disparlon Powder Thixotropes in epoxy coatings on cool down?
With the activation temperature between 60-80 ° C
- Cooling with stir to 55 ° C will give you a thick fluid structure with a rating of 3.
- Cooling without stir will give you a stiff liquid with a rating of 4.
If you overheated the activation temperature to above the recommended 80 ° C
- Cooling with stir to 50 ° C will give you a thick fluid liquid with a rating of 3.
- Cooling with stir to 70 °C will give you a stiff liquid with a rating of 5.
- Cooling with no stir will give you an almost solid, agglomerated product with a rating of 2.
Rating Scale: 1 (low structure) to 5 (high structure)

- Put the product in at room temperature.
- Heat the paint to its recommended activation temperature.
- After 30 minutes of the temperature being at activation level, put product into can.
- Follow cool down instructions to reach optimal structure.

Does King have additives for "food grade" lubricants?
Yes. We can fulfill most additive requirements with products conforming to FDA CFR 178.3570, Lubricants with Incidental Food Contact, and approved for HX-1 by NSF. In addition, we have approval for alkylated naphthalene base fluids which are excellent for severe thermal-oxidative applications, NA-LUBE KR FG grades.

What is the difference between active and inactive sulfur in EP additives?
Simplified, inactive sulfur is sufficiently tightly bound that it will not readily react with copper, while active sulfur is less tightly bound and will react with copper. There are places for both and our NA-LUBE EP line contains both. Typically lubricants and metalworking fluids use inactive sulfur EP additives if yellow metals (copper and its alloys) are present. Heavy duty applications, like gear oils and machining steel, may require active sulfur to accomplish the EP performance objectives.

Are the NA-SU® sulfonates synthetic?
Yes. NA-SUL alkylated naphthalene sulfonates are completely synthetic. Natural (petroleum derived) sulfonates have a broad molecular weight distribution and tend to be good emulsifiers. Synthetic sulfonates have a narrower molecular weight and are selected for the properties of that range. The NA-SUL sulfonates are excellent rust inhibitors and exhibit excellent water separation.

What are the alternatives to barium for rust preventives?
Calcium is the most commonly chosen alternative salt. NA-SUL 729 is the calcium analog of NA-SUL BSN. NA-SUL CA-1089 is frequently chosen to be a more cost-effective alternative as a rust preventive component. In addition, we produce a broad range of calcium-based rust preventive concentrates.

Can water be used as the "solvent" to meet VOC requirements for rust preventives?
Yes. For mild, short-term rust preventives (RP) we have NA-SUL concentrates that are water soluble. For more severe RP requirements, we have NA-SUL concentrates that easily form stable emulsions.
